- Today in Health we discussed fire safety - we made a list of things to do in case of fire at home, school and in the community
- The grade 8 students are selling cookies as a fundraiser. They will be delivered once a week for the next 3 weeks - If you are interested you may purchase it on schoolcashonline.com
- Monday is Day 1 - Please remember to bring back your library books
- Just as a reminder we will be writing the gifted screening test on Monday Dec 3rd - 3x10minutes in the morning and 3x10 minutes before lunch - Tuesday morning we will write the final 3x10minute tests
- Wednesday Dec 12th we will be having Scientists in the School come to our class to do a science workshop on forces and movement
- FRIDAY DEC 14th - We will be having our winter concert. All (grade 2 and 3) classes will be performing. You are ALL welcome to join us for the presentation

- A force can MOVE or STOP an object, AND CHANGE THE SPEED and THE DIRECTION of an object (une force peut bouger ou arreter un objet et changer la vitesse et la direction d'un objet)
- They will also need to give an example of this (from Wednesday's homework)

- We started a new assignment on jobs in Ontario - Students chose a job and have a list of items they need to include - For homework I would like the students to find 3-5 places/cities where that job can be found



- Please remember to send your child with the proper winter clothes - hat, gloves, boots, snow pants, jacket, etc. Please remind your child of the importance of dressing appropriately at this time of year.

- We started talking about forces and movements in class today - We discussed objects that you can push and pull as well as some other verbs that are related. Please ask your child to share this discussion with you

- We will be writing the gifted screening test next week in class Monday December 3rd (2 half hour sessions) and Tuesday December 4th (1 half hour session)

- Math - pick between 5-10 objects at home (try and find similar objects, for example, toys - toy cars,
cereal box, cracker box, etc) try to classify the objects into a venn diagram using either 2 or 3 attributes - Sample attributes: size, colour, shape, number of sides, number of wheels, weight, etc.
- There are a few students who don't have indoor shoes- Please ensure your child has indoor running shoes and perhaps some extra socks or gloves in case they get wet during the cold and wet days.

- This Friday is a PA Day - unless you have an interview scheduled. (it's still a PA Day) Thank you to all those who have signed up for interviews this Thursday afternoon/evening and Friday morning. I encourage the students to come take part in the interview and advocate for themselves and take part in the conversations and discussions.

- If you have not already done so, you may now log onto Edsby (yrdsb.edsby.com) and sign up for a parent-teacher interview either next Thursday November 22nd after school or the morning of Friday November 23rd. Please note that you will need to create an account on Edsby if you haven't already done so.
- The Social Studies - Specialized Communities assignment has been changed to Tuesday Deadline
Please make sure your child dresses appropriately for the cold weather - perhaps send extra socks or clothes and make sure their gloves are waterproof!

- The students got a poppy today for Remembrance Day- If you would like to give a donation to the Royal Canadian Legion please bring it in on Monday

- We will be finishing up our math unit on measuring time and temperature early next week.

- A handout has gone home today regarding gifted screening that will be taking place between November 26th and December 7th
- Soon you will be able to sign up for parent-teacher interviews on EDSBY either the evening of November 23rd or the morning of November 24th

- Please fill in the auto-evaluation for learning skills for the recent month

- If your child has not yet completed their Health assignment - booklet I would like them  to try to complete it at home by Monday November 5th
- Each student has chosen a country in which they have been researching the various foods from the different groups that are most often eaten in their country of choice.
- If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to ask.

- I also assigned the science assignment/task to the students this morning. We spent most of the period getting started and organized. Each student has created a google slides document in which they will record their information (for those microsoft people, its the equivalent of powerpoint).
- I will be giving them lots of time in class, and we already began working on the first 2 of 3 questions in class.

- Short math quiz tomorrow on telling time
- I put some practice questions on google classroom - the quiz will be the same format if you would like / have time to review it
